The Yale Club is putting on a great volunteer and BBQ event on May 16 that they are opening up to friends of Yale.
The Yale Club also runs several community services projects open to those interested in getting involved.
Be a Part of Something Big!
Join thousands of Yale alumni around the world and give back to your local community on May 16, 2009
The tradition of service is rooted in Yale’s past… but perhaps it is more relevant today than ever. We know you want to give back, not only to Yale, but also to your community. So, get together with your family and friends, and join us on Saturday, May 16, 2009, for what promises to be a milestone day for Yale, as we collectively embody Yale’s great tradition of service to others.
The Yale Club of Beijing has a number of exciting plans for this day. Yale Club members and friends of Yale will participate in a variety of service projects in Beijing and other locations throughout China and then come together in the evening for a celebratory event.

· Travel to Linxian County in Henan Province on May 8-10 to teach English to rural middle school students. The Yale Club of Beijing has previously donated English books to the library at Yaocun No.1 Middle School, and we return to practice English with the students every year. Volunteers will also be able to visit to the 3,300-year-old ruins of the Shang Dynasty capital at Yin, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the Oracle Bones that are the origins of the Chinese language were discovered.
**Please note that this project has special registration requirements. Contact Dr. Gwen Zahner (gwen_zahner@yahoo.com) by Thursday, April 30 if you are interested in joining this group.
· Paint rehabilitation education rooms at Erkang Hospital in Beijing, which provides subsidized care to children with cerebral palsy.
· Teach English or Creative Arts & Crafts to the children of migrant workers through the Compassion for Migrant Children Super Saturdays Program.
· Teach Art to hospitalized children in Beijing through a program run by Magic Hospital.
· Play with children at an orphanage in Shunyi.
