Hua Dan - Creative Director

 
The Creative Director position is an exciting and truly unique opportunity to be part of shaping the vision and direction of this highly innovative organization.   The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of our growing operations, both regionally and internationally, and to learn and be part of a team of Hua Daners and world class theatre and arts practitioners that work together to develop the vision.
 
Hua Dan’s mission is to address both the challenges and opportunities that internal migration poses in China.  We work with multiple stakeholders who are either engaged with or affected by this issue, to create innovative, arts-based workshops and training programmes that uncover the potential of each party and foster collaboration, community and more harmonious relationships.  More information can be found at www.hua-dan.org.
 
The position would suit a theatre graduate with minimum 3 years of practical experience in related fields.  Please see below for more information.

Creative Director, Hua Dan
POSITION PURPOSE:
The Creative Director has overall responsibility for the design, development and quality control of Hua Dan’s core products and creative output.  As part of this, he or she works with the CEO and Managing Director to set the creative direction and innovation plan in line with the overall organizational strategy.  The Creative Director must train project managers and facilitators to ensure they are competent and capable facilitators of Hua Dan workshops.  They must also identify and oversee Hua Dan’s Creative Associates and other creative ‘experts’ to ensure continuous innovation and product development to enable Hua Dan to reach its objectives.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • To work with senior staff members and creative associates on new product development, programme design, workshops and video content
  • To design, develop and implement innovation strategy and systems within Hua Dan, in partnership with CEO
  • To rehearse and direct new workshops and performances, in association with project managers and facilitators
  • Ensure and maintain exceptional quality control of artistic content of Hua Dan Experience, consultancy workshops and other Hua Dan projects
  • Source and develop relationships for Hua Dan Creative Associate positions, both international and local
  • Work with and manage Hua Dan’s Creative Associates to achieve objectives in project design and implementation
  • Development of creative content and opportunities for Hua Dan’s corporate training and consultancy initiatives
  • Archive training processes and methodologies to develop Hua Dan’s Training Manual and model
  • Training and mentoring of Hua Dan staff in arts-based and theatre approaches, new techniques, methodologies, models, skill sets
  • Leading and facilitating English-language workshops as necessary
  • Overseeing fundraising/proposal writing for new creative initiatives/cross-cultural collaboration projects within Hua Dan
 
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree in Theatre Studies and/or equivalent experience
Significant knowledge and experience of arts for social change techniques/theatre for development/Forum Theatre
Fluent English with Chinese and other languages an advantage
Strong performance skills
Extensive knowledge of global issues and very international perspective
Proven experience in workshop leadership and directing
Excellent leadership skills and ability to inspire others
Enthusiastic, energetic, positive disposition
Passion for working cross-culturally
Strong professional skills
Ability to work with and relate to people from diverse backgrounds, from disenfranchised communities to multi-national corporations
